How to study at university

Advice to students — how to study at University

Based on

In this article, I will retain fond memories of their student days and to share the experience of five years. All students are dedicated!

Curious is the situation of students in a country of millions, most from year to year is experiencing the same problems and difficulties, and information on how to cope with them in the Network virtually none. Dozen found through Google pages will enlighten students on how to prepare for exams and to talk the talk of the teacher. As if student life is limited to the exams… Rather the opposite – examinations occupy a very insignificant place in the life of a student: “from session to session, students live fun”.

(Although, I also managed to find the translated articles of a different kind, stuffed with foolishness about motivation and self discipline )

So to write an article about how to succeed in high school and generally how to make five (one six) years of study went down the drain, is necessary.

Tip number zero. Starting from scratch, because the Council addressed to the graduates of schools and entrants. Usually at the end of the 11th class students starts natural the heat: to pass the final exams (well, exam), to squeeze into the Univer… the Motto these days is “just to do anywhere else”.It is extremely harmful and incorrect approach. In 17 years, few people think about the importance of choosing the place of study – and in vain, because it is not weak to affect the rest of your life. So I suggest that the applicants (bodø those reading the article) to answer a few questions:

  1. Why am I going to go to this University? .What do I expect from school?
  2. What I want to do after high school? As the knowledge and experience I gained at this University will help me in my classes?
  3. Where would I go if I knew exactly what to do?
  4. Where it’s worth, given my answers to previous three questions?

Tip number one. So, you went to school, graduated there the first week, not confused name and patronymic of the teacher and are aware of where you can catch the piece between couples. Great! Now it’s time to stop and think. For simplicity again offer questions:

1. What has changed in my attitude to this University? What’s new (and important) have I had?

2. That this University can give me in terms of knowledge? How and where you can enjoy its graduates?

3. In addition to knowledge can give me this University? Dating and relationships? Experience with activism? Start a scientific career?

It is important that you as early as possible answer these questions as honestly and defined home: how to study here corresponds with your life goals . Very often the student comes to understand that he missed the mark by choosing the school or faculty. Very often, understand that studying is futile. It is not necessary to hide from such thoughts. Always need to be completely aware of the situation.

Tip number two. Your further actions depend on the answer to the questions in the previous paragraph. Here are some of the most likely ways:

Situation A: you understand that studying in this University can really give you enough practical and theoretical knowledge, the students undergo training and internships in good organizations and learn here definitely makes sense. Well, that was easy. Select the items that you will need to work after graduation and understand them properly. On the other pay exactly as much attention as necessary to avoid unnecessary “tails”.

Situation B:exactly the opposite.

— if you spent a little bit more time (you discovered that the University does not suit you 1 course) – do the other. It is better to lose year, than 5.

— if the time left procedure, it is possible to change the place of study is not wise.

Tip number three. What to do if the University does not suit you, and change it later?

I once (unfortunately, it was already on the 4th course…) sketched such a program of action:

1. To minimize loss of time in school.

2. Squeeze out native University all that is possible, since it is impossible to get a good knowledge.

3. Forget about the fact that I am a student and find yourself another, more useful thing, to whom I will devote more time and effort.

4. Studies at the University to be perceived as the training of intelligence (to pass the exams without training), effective communication (particularly evil to persuade the teacher to let go with the pair), and self-discipline (to sit for compulsory pairs).

All this, in principle, got me good. Here are a few examples.

Minimization of loss of time:

in the beginning of the semester I did a ranking of teachers – who how many can you skip without consequences, and played truant respectively.

slightly having caught a cold, I ran to the clinic, did the tired eyes and complained of weakness and eventually received the coveted certificate that allowed me a week or two to go about their business;

unlike the lectures, the seminars I attended carefully and not plugging them talking – that a certain habit is quite simple. The teachers in my head clicked the lever to “active student” and click on the “check machine” was simple;

in the fifth year (later, later…) I was slightly involved, as it is now called, publicactivities – there is another great excuse for all occasions.

Squeezing from the University of everything that is possible:

increased scholarship – itself (helped machines and a beautiful record book);

a ticket to the South;

Dating, and relationships.

Over the past two year I have also worked in places 6-7, grabbed a dozen certificates and diplomas in different competitions outside of the University, managed to start (and fail, which is natural) my business project and also to “pump” the confidence , the ability to communicate and act publicly, to operate time. The only thing I regret, too late, began to walk and too long was an exemplary student. Here begin would know in a second! Oh!

In General, the best advice for students who would like to give, does not Shine with originality, but is, perhaps, the only correct:

This advice: treat the study consciously. Always clearly understand your long-term goals and follow them, even if it interferes with learning. Your goal is more important!

Navigation through the records

this year will go to the second year, on the first truant very rarely, I don’t know what to do in the second. In principle, the question is why am I at uni? you can answer like this: I need free time for self-realization in life. Well, a diploma is in principle not prevent) the profession not to say that bad, but I don’t love her. In the end I have a question for you. It is important diploma of higher education often talk about it, type»no towers anywhere». Or it is not needed. In principle, in the future, or plan to open your own business or get a job in a good company.

When applying for a job to the diploma attitude is twofold:

on the one hand, very often say «forget everything you were told in high school, then we practice»;

with other companies, though do not trust the quality of higher education, however, is even less trusted by those who have not. So I would not say that»no towers anywhere», but still the lack of a diploma can greatly complicate the job search.

For you, I think the best option is to learn a year or two, not really leaning on unnecessary items and try to get a job in a good company — at least an Intern, for the experience. And then we’ll see — maybe a diploma and do not need.

I’ve realized that I don’t need a University somewhere in the 4th year, went to work. Eventually unlearn the fifth year (formally, in the classroom I visited one or two times a week) and failed the last session (not really their fault). A year has passed and, surprisingly, I’m almost not worried about the lack of a diploma. So, somewhere in the background hangs a task to complete in the near future.
